Plage de Fougères
Swimming in the lake, ten minutes away
Lake Chambon runs sixteen kilometres long. Plage de Fougères occupies one shore, in our commune. Access is free.
The lake is not natural. It is the reservoir behind the Éguzon dam, brought into service in 1926, which flooded the valley over sixteen kilometres and three hundred and seventeen hectares. A century on, it is the area's main body of water.
The beach is run by the commune. The water is monitored by the regional health agency, which rated it 'excellent' for the 2025 season. Rowing boats, pedal boats, canoes and bikes are available to hire. There is a play area, picnic tables, a car park, and bars in high season.
For water-skiing, it's elsewhere on the lake: the Éguzon sailing club, on the far shore, with state-qualified instructors.
One thing to check on arrival: sources disagree on whether there is a lifeguard post in summer.
