Musée de la Vallée de la Creuse
What the Bas-Berry made with its hands
A museum of folk art and traditions in Éguzon-Chantôme. Daily life and craft in the valley, from the late 18th century to the 1950s. Three euros.
It was founded in 1987 by a local heritage association, built from collections gathered from families in the area. The commune took it over and professionalised it; a new building was constructed in 2002, next to the château's former stables.
The displays work through reconstructions: a home interior, a schoolroom, a basket-weaver's workshop, village scenes. Two rooms cover subjects rarely seen elsewhere: basket weaving, and the Creuse stonemasons who left each year to build Paris and returned for winter.
A whole room for games and toys, with workshops.
Open mid-March to mid-November, closed Mondays. Allow one hour.
