Musée hôtel Lépinat

The hotel that once housed the painters, now their museum

Opened in 2014 in the former Hôtel Lépinat, the establishment that once lodged the painters who came to work in the valley. More than sixty original works.

The full title says what you'll find there: Guillaumin et les peintres de la vallée de la Creuse. Armand Guillaumin, an Impressionist from the very first hour, exhibiting with the group from 1874, spent the last thirty years of his life painting these valleys.

The interpretation centre combines original works with audiovisual and multimedia displays, alongside temporary exhibitions and workshops.

There's a logic to seeing the museum before or after the fortress: the paintings show what the valley looked like before the dam.

Allow an hour and a half. Open from late March to mid-November, closed Mondays outside summer.
