La Boucle du Pin

Four kilometres around a bend in the Creuse

A walking loop starting from the Badecon-le-Pin belvedere. It descends to the river, climbs back up through the hamlet of Le Pin, and circles a steep-sided meander.

Four kilometres, an hour and a quarter according to the tourist office, two hours according to the department: the truth is probably somewhere in between, and depends on what you stop to look at. The trail is rated difficult, which mostly means you go down to water level and have to climb back up.

The start is at the Belvédère car park. From there, the view takes in the ravine where the Creuse narrows, between the church spires of Le Pin and Ceaulmont.

George Sand wrote about it: local legend sees the mark of Gargantua striding across the ravine, and she retells the story.

A practical note: another nineteen-kilometre route circulates under an almost identical name on hiking apps. This isn't that one.
